US Military Training FG Explains withdrawal of Nigerian soldiers

A cross-section of Nigerian soldiers
The Federal Government has explained its reason for cancelling a training programme for Nigerian soldiers which was being carried out by the US.

The FG has however said that it could not go on with the programme because of the stringent conditions listed by the US for its continuation.
According to the Coordinator of the National Information Centre,Mike Omeri, one of the conditions for the continuation of the training was the withdrawal of some military equipment currently being used by Nigerian soldiers in the field.
Omeri stated further that the nation could not deprive its troops of equipment and expose citizens to terrorist attacks for the sole purpose of training some soldiers.
He however denied the reports that ties between the two countries are strained stating that military relations between Nigeria and the US are “ongoing and strong.”
