Fight Against Religion: Senior military officer wants Christianity banned from British army

Lieutenant Colonel Laurence Quinn has expressed his discomfort with the Christian religion being the official religion of the British Army.

A senior British military officer has called for the Army to ditch Christianity as its main religion and replace the use of priest and chaplain with “moral counsellor”. Lieutenant Colonel Laurence Quinn said that the practice of sending priests to the front line and the forces should be stopped and instead non-religious advisors should take their place.

According to a report by Uk’s Mirrorr, Lieutenant Laurence Quinn who is a former commanding officer of a battalion that played a major role in the drawdown of UK forces across Afghanistan this year, said that he is feeling at discomfort with the way religion is tied to everything the Army does.

“Troops should be able to practise their religion, and I think we should facilitate that, but it shouldn’t be bound up in our business,” Laurence Quinn said according to Mirror.

“When I was a commanding officer, I came to appreciate chaplains – I think they do an invaluable job – but I think we would be better served by them being secular,” he added.
